​Africa foundations is a non-profit organisation working with communities close, or influential, to core conservation areas, in six countries in Africa. Founded in 1992 the organisations key goals are to facilitate rural communities in the realisation of their development goals, and to promote the preservation of land and wildlife.

We are looking for anan experienced development-sector project manager within a growing non-profit organisation. Experience in, or knowledge of, projects in education, health, conservation  or small business development would be an advantage.

Africa Foundation builds long term relationships with communities and facilitates the delivery of projects identified by the community. Working in complete collaboration with community members, government and other stakeholders, we ensure that the appropriate structures are in place to guarantee the long-term sustainability of the projects developed.
 
Job Brief:
 
Working under the Africa Foundation Operations Manager, and supporting a number of Programme leads, this position would suit an experienced development-sector project  manager within a growing non-profit organisation. Experience in, or knowledge of, projects in education, health, conservation or small business development would be an advantage.

Project Management

  • Manage a portfolio of cross-regional projects in a number of specialities, across South, Southern and East Africa.
  • Report to a number of Programme and Regional leads, while maintaining operational consistency across all Africa Foundation projects under management.
  • Support partners and stakeholders in project management functions, where we are involved in joint projects and programmes.
  • Work with the finance department to provide financial and reporting support for programme leads and other stakeholders, with proper project financial management workflows and reporting.
  • Manage any necessary project procurement according the rules and process of Africa Foundation, and of specific donors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that project documentation is well managed and available to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that relevant project indicators are recorded, tracked and reported.
  • Draft and manage MOUs, contracts and other agreements to ensure good project governance.

Budgets and Financial Management

  • Support the creation of project and programme budgets. 
  • Prudently manage budgets and forecasts for all projects under management.
  • Ensure ongoing, accurate financial reporting on projects.

Client and Donor Management, Reporting and Monitoring 

  • Support the business development and donor management unit with project information, budgets, and programme status and performance indicators.
  • Ensure appropriate project data is collected, analysed and reported.

Project Systems Management

  • Assist the Operations Manager in developing appropriate project management protocols, processes and templates.
  • Support the Operations Manger in designing, developing and implementing project productivity toolsets across the organisation and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Social Science, Development studies, Conservation or similar, OR any degree and relevant work experience in community development.
  • At least three years’ experience in the development, NGO or social impact sector.
  • Experience in project-managing multi-year donor funded projects.
  • Demonstrable experience using project management software and other productivity tools.

Skills

  • Excellent spreadsheet, database, and analytical skills
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Ability to communicate in one or more of isiZulu, Tsonga, Swahili, Portuguese or Setswana would be advantageous.

Other Requirements

This is a Johannesburg based position with local and regional travel. The right to work in South Africa is a requirement.
